Our project team has been hard at work on this year's Bronco Fright Fest escape room... Pirate Breakout! 💀 Our project manager William Dinkins checked in with our puzzle leads this week to showcase the progress that has been made! We have two animatronic figures 🤖 being worked on by Timothy Waters and Riku Kear, a marble - block puzzle 🔒 designed by Curtis Shipley, and many more puzzles and set design elements created by the rest of our team.

Along with that, some of our club members got the chance to tour the prop room in the theater department to view possible scenic pieces to be used in the escape room! This was an amazing opportunity and we want to give a huge thanks to the CPP theater team who are sharing their resources with us to create this incredible experience.

This morning, about 25 of our TEA@CPP members had the incredible opportunity to go on a Behind-the-Scenes Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood! We got to see firsthand the engineering and problem-solving that go into keeping these attractions running smoothly for day-to-day operations.

A huge thank you to Nick Rooney and the entire Universal Studios Hollywood Technical Services Team as well as recruiters Emily Bishop and Viviana Siles-Osejo for hosting us, sharing their knowledge, and giving us a deeper appreciation for the work they do. We are so grateful for the opportunity to learn from their team and for their willingness to support the next generation of themed entertainment professionals!

An additional thank you to our TEA@CPP Membership Director Curtis Shipley for working to coordinate logistics with the Universal team and help make this tour a reality for our members! ✨

Next week the College of Environmental Design is hosting former Imagineering President and CPP Alumni, Bob Weis, at our campus for a book signing and talk about his latest book, Dream Chasing.

Instead of our typical TEA@CPP meeting we will be attending this event as a club! The talk will be on Tuesday, 12/03 during U-Hour 12-1pm in the University Theater. Make sure that you register for the event using the QR code in flyer.

Xochilt Khoury is an Associate Project Manager at TechMDinc as well as the Director of Communications for Haunt Comp. She graduated from UC San Diego in 2021 with a B.A. in Speculative Design (Media) and a minor in Theatre (Stage Management and Design). In her time at TechMDinc, Xochilt has worked with client teams to bring The Stranger Things Experience to life as well as worked as part of the team on projects for Disney, Mycotoo, BRC Imagination Arts, THG Creative, and Ryman-Soul of Nashville show. In the past, Xochilt has interned for multiple entertainment companies including Lionsgate Global Live, Interactive, and Location-Based Entertainment, DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, amongst others in creative and project management capacities. Xochilt is leading TechMDinc’s Outreach and Internships initiative and strongly takes on mentoring the next generation of students looking to join our industry.

This past Saturday TEA@CPP had the honor of getting a VIP tour at Huntington Gardens lead by Docent Erin Sloan. She was gracious enough to tell us about the amazing art pieces and architecture that was used to create these themed environments. Some of the group’s favorite items were the Portrait of a Young Gentleman, Drifting towards Twilight, and the Chinese Garden. Thank you Huntington Garden for hosting us!

TEA@CPP has been hard at work on a creative project! This year, a group of students have been working on the Tyrant’s Curse Escape Room, a project where TEA@CPP members are designing a medieval fantasy themed escape room giving the students of CPP easy access to themed entertainment on our campus! The project team, led by Curtis Shipley with assistance from Trinity Neades, have recently been working on the concept and deliverables to present to the school in late April for approval to build. The creative design team led by Jacquie Perisho are designing a scale model of the escape room and the Costuming and Props team led by Katie Reynoso have been working on various props and one of the costumes for our live actors. The engineering team led by Will Dinkins have been developing the technical side of the room, creating code for the RFIDs that will control our insightful puzzles. Lastly, Faith Martinez and the Revit team have been working on a digital model of the room on Revit. We can’t wait to see this project continue and grow from model to an immersive experience for students to enjoy! Look out for details regarding our presentation soon!
